7 Value Areas Of Life
Why You NEED To Make A Change NOW
Alright folks, here it is. Our country is out of shape, insecure, distracted and just simply unhealthy. It’s pretty easy to see. Although this may not be you, or not to a great degree let’s say, the topic is most likely related to someone in your closest circle and more importantly…probably your family.
Our food system is so jacked up. The government, food and drug administration, etc., are not really on our side. Except maybe now. We’ll see. Pharmaceuticals? Forget about it.
Yes, this post is starting off quite negative, but that’s for a reason. We need a change as a society, but that’s a tall task. I could write on that all day, but it starts with the people. With YOU.
It’s time to take charge and ownership of your life. There is always something that needs to be worked on. Always. Even the most elite athletes may have some physical weaknesses to work on, or a diet change. Maybe it’s a need for help on the psychological side of it all. Either way, even a professional athlete has something to work on before the next attempt at a win. OR when they return to “real” life and realize it’s not all about performance, but also about living well despite the challenges. You can learn a lot from both sides.
I Have Issues Too…
So no matter who you are, you have an area to work on. So let’s dig in there. First, I will say that I am in need of help too, so you understand that the writer is not trying to come off as perfect. I really need help with distraction and procrastination. Other than too much scrolling, I don’t know why most of this is happening. Something that I hate to admit, but it’s there. Healthwise, I’m taking the month off of alcohol this January too. (edited, did a few weeks total and have now added no alcohol for lent) I’d like to get a little detox and most importantly just take a break from social expectations. Anyways, on to the main topic.
When I sit down to write which isn’t often enough, hence procrastination, I usually want to write about topics like this. It fuels me. I hope that people can get better and I want to help them. You. I just get caught up in all the ideas. I’ve felt like my brain has been broken for years. Maybe it is to a degree. The last few years of our lives have been weird. Either way though, I have ownership to take here.
Let’s Now Look At All 7 Value Areas Of Life
A question to ask yourself is: what’s the first thing you think about when trying to improve your life?
Each season of life will at least be slightly different. However, this question will come down to looking into a few value areas of life. Mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, etc.
It’s obvious for me to focus JUST on the physical, BUT, the point of diving deeper for yourself is to figure out the area that needs help first. The article I referenced above goes much deeper into those areas, and will help you in finding whatever area that is. (if it’s not linked, it’s not done yet) Since it’s the new year, I’ll get really practical and dive into the physical.
Physical Value
The title of this article was chosen mainly due to the timing of the year, but also that I’ve noticed most people don’t have their life together in some of these areas. We’re plagued with both having a lot of info and options, as well as not knowing what to do with it all, or simply trying to do too much. I’ve been there. Basically that’s where my procrastination comes from. So many things to do and so much in my brain, I’ve overwhelmed myself quite a bit in different seasons.
Making changes in your physical health is hard. However it’s often simpler than you make it. The other aforementioned value areas might be what’s actually hindering you, though. For example, often there’s an emotional issue or mental “blockage” that’s stopping you from moving forward. So much of that is so hard to quantify, but this brings me to my main point.
This all takes a lifetime of journeying through the peaks and valleys of your health…
While staying in the game and not going back and forth too much. That’s the key. A little work each day is much better than a lot of work for 12 weeks and then stopping.
The longer you wait, the longer it takes to get out of valleys, or even recognize some of the one’s you’re currently in. As cliche as it sounds, there really is no better time than now when it comes to your health. Start the process of digging into what you need to focus on, by taking the first step. Knowing that it’s not a quick fix. I’m sorry, it’s just not.
I’m not lucky that I’m fit. I work my ass off for my health. I see a lot of specialists and now I’m well into maintenance mode for most areas of my life. Except for that procrastination that is;) That will change at times in the future though. But that’s the tools I’ve created for myself. I can use them now whenever I need them. Where people need to get to. I want that for you too.
That place looks like this:
- You know you’ll find time to work on yourself almost everyday, without being anal about it.
- Off days aren’t that often and when they happen, the actual tough problem is not worrying about missing one here and there, versus the rabbit hole of missing a lot and regressing heavily. I’d rather fight perfectionism in that area than fighting to get off the couch, or “start over again.”
- You don’t have to always wonder what to do with exercise. You’ll have tools for different situations. Sometimes it’s more cardio, sometimes it’s more weight training. Sometimes it’s hypertrophy to gain some weight after having a 3 week sickness, and sometimes it’s more yoga.
- Same with food. (this is always somewhat hard, but it’s worth the fight). Just like above…you’ll have tools to use for different seasons and reasons.
BUT you still often struggle with at least one addiction. Mine are typically:
- Currently phone and checking messages and just all around a few of the same apps.
- Sugary foods.
- I was never addicted to alcohol but I’ve had times where I was just socializing too much in a sense. At times, I needed to get rid of it. Like portions of this year.
To reiterate…there’s always something, but that’s not what to focus on. Maybe changing that “thing”, sure, but not focusing on the fact that there’s always something there. (I’m asking you to be aware of these things) Just another step to take, and things will cycle back and forth. The one addiction like I mentioned above, or being really anxious about it shouldn’t always take you out of the game. Resilience and grit are key. I’ll write some articles on that later.
Closing Statements
Hopefully some of this resonated with you. There isn’t anything magical about this post. Just raw and needed info and reminders for some. Take action so that you’re not always trying to play catch-up, but you’re almost always ahead of the game. Even if it’s just one step most of the time.
That’s how to beat this whole health thing, in a world full of unhealthy patterns and distractions, and prevent us from becoming who we were born to be. To me, that’s scarier than working out hard and getting uncomfortable.
Let health and fitness enhance your life. Not be a weight you can’t bear.
Cheers and have a great year!
